Engine Oil Level

Be sure that the vehicle is on level ground.

1.

Warm up and stop the engine, and then wait for 5 minutes.

2.

Turn the engine off and wait for a few minutes (about 5 minutes) for the oil to return to the oil pan.

3.

Pull the dipstick out, wipe and re-insert it fully.

4.

Check that the oil level is between the "L" level mark and "F" level mark on the engine oil level gauge.

5.

If the level is low, check for leakage and add oil up to the "F" level mark.

Use a funnel to help prevent oil from being spilled on engine components.

Do not fill the engine with oil to above the full level mark.

Engine Oil Appearance

1.

Check engine oil for white turbidity or heavy contamination.

2.

If engine oil becomes turbid and white, it is highly probable that it is contaminated with engine coolant.

Repair or replace damaged parts.

Engine Oil And Filter Replacement

[R 2.2]

Prolonged and repeated contact with mineral oil will result in the removal of natural fats from the skin, leading to dryness, irritation and dermatitis. In addition, used engine oil contains potentially harmful contaminants which may cause skin cancer.

Exercise caution in order to minimize the length and frequency of contact of your skin to used oil. Wear protective clothing and gloves. Wash your skin thoroughly with soap and water, or use water-less hand cleaner, to remove any used engine oil. Do not use gasoline, thinners, or solvents.

Be careful not to contaminate near parts when replacing engine oil.

In order to preserve the environment, used oil and used oil filter must be disposed of only at designated disposal sites.

1.

Drain the engine oil.

(1)

Remove the oil filler cap (A).

(2)

Remove the engine room front under cover.

(Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Engine Room Under Cover")

(3)

Remove the oil drain plug (A), and drain the oil into a container.

2.

Replace the oil filter.

(1)

Remove the drain bolt (A) on the bottom of the oil filter cap and drain the oil in the oil filter.

(2)

Remove the oil filter cap (A).

(3)

Install the new oil filter element (C).

Lightly screw the oil filter cap into place, and tighten it until the O-ring (B) contacts the seat. Finally tighten it again by specified tightening torque.

Tightening Torque :

31.5 - 38.5 N·m (3.2 - 3.9 kgf·m, 23.2 - 28.4 lb·ft)

Inspect the threads and O-ring of the filter cap.

Replace the O-ring of the oil filter cap with a new one.

Wipe off the seat on the oil filter cap, then apply a light coat of oil to the oil filter cap O-ring.

Before installing new engine oil filter element, be sure to clean residual oil inside of the oil filter housing and oil filter cap and on the threads of the oil filter cap.

If not, residual oil will come out of the oil filter housing and cap and it may be mistaken as an oil leak.

(4)

Replace the drain bolt (A) with a new one. Tighten the drain bolt (A) by specified tightening torque.

Tightening Torque :

8.8 - 10.8 N·m (0.9 - 1.1 kgf·m, 6.5 - 8.0 lb·ft)

3.

Refill with the engine oil.

(1)

Clean and install the oil drain plug (A) with a new gasket.

Tightening torque :

34.3 - 44.1 N·m (3.5 - 4.5 kgf·m, 25.3 - 32.5 lb·ft)

(2)

Fill with fresh engine oil after removing the engine oil level gauge.

Fill half amount of total oil first and then do the rest after 1 minute or more.

5.

Recheck the engine oil level.

When rechecking the engine oil level, be sure to warm up the engine enough. If the engine warm up is not enough, the engine oil level can be measured less than specification.

6.

To reset the service interval to the recommended mileage, refer to the service mode section in the owner's manual for procedure (if applicable).

7.

Install the engine room front under cover.

(Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Engine Room Under Cover")
